Special features of the project
The project consists in creating a new port facility in the Nigg bay located at the south of the actual Aberdeen port. This port is to be devoted to the vessels in charge for supplying the offshore oil extraction platform in the North Sea. This new infrasctrure is now protected by two rublemound breakwaters, 600m long each. Both breakwaters are covered by ACCROPODE™ II armour units with sizes ranging from 8 m3 to 16 m3 for the most exposed areas. Around 8300 ACCROPODE™ II armour units were used for the project.

- Total protection length with ACCROPODE™ armour units : 1200 m
- Max. seabed depth (toe): -12 m
- Top of the crest: +12.00 m
Construction Aspect
The breakwaters were built from land using large crawler cranes and hydraulic shovels. A total of 8300 ACCROPOPDE™ II blocks were produced for this project with sizes 8 m3 ,12 m3 and 16 m3 .
