Konkan LNG Limited, a joint venture company promoted by M/s. Gail (India) Ltd., (A Maharatna company under Ministry of petroleum & natural gas), and M/s. NTPC Ltd. (A Maharatna company under Ministry of power) have awarded the Contract to LARSEN & TOUBRO for the project. The site is located at Anjanwel village, Dabhol port of Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra in India. It is about 340 km south of Mumbai (by car).

Special features of the project

The construction of the structure involves the manufacturing and placing of ACCROPODE™ units.
Construction works include :

  • Construction of an Off-Shore breakwater over a length of 2.32 km. 500 m have already been built 20 years ago. The CONTRACTOR will build the 1.82 km remaining.
  • Construction of the main breakwater is to be protected with 9.0 m3 and 12.0 m3 ACCROPODE™ I.

The design had been tested with 3D physical model tests.

Hydraulic conditions

  • Breakwaters protected with ACCROPODE™ I blocks : 2.32 km
  • Max. seabed depth (toe): -9 m 
  • Top of the crest: +7 m 

Construction Aspect

The breakwaters were built from land. 13 458 ACCROPODE™ units of 9 m3 and 12 m3 were placed using cranes.
