NEW CORE-LOCTM DESIGN GUIDELINES

We are pleased to present herewith the new and revised design table for CORE-LOCTM armour units. This revised table bring together the accumulated knowledge of over 60 CORE-LOCTM contracts completed worldwide and project and research model testing carried out around the world. This table also provides a new graphic design together with technical improvements and advances. These improvements relate to the following fundamental segments:

- Unit packing density

- Underlayer categories

- Seabed influence, slope and stability

The improvements to the packing density show an increase in the CORE-LOCTM armour unit packing densities of about 5%. This increase arises from updated laboratory tests and feedback from extensive use of these units on contracts worldwide.

This improvement envisages the actual final placement coverage rate utilising the latest, available, unit placement equipment.

The new table includes theoretical underlayer classifications and values in accordance with the CIRIA Rock Manual. Theoretical values are shown due to the variability of project specifications and rock variability.

A CLI memorandum regarding an under-layer analysis will be performed in the future in order to assist the designers in determining in a more accurate way the under layer rock categories based on projects specific requirements.

The strength and energy generated by waves varies and is a function of the seabed material and slope. This is the reason that the stability coefficient appears in this new version of the table. It is based on the information contained in the CIRIA Rock Manual. This method is used by CLI when performing a CORE-LOCTM design review or providing the input to designers for preliminary alternative design. This method has been tried and tested and confirmed many times during physical model testing.

Any comment regarding this new table will be appreciated.
